day without a gay

Perhaps a take off the Sergio Arau 2004 feature film Day Without a Mexican, the new Dec. 10 “holiday”being planned challenges the LGBT community to take the day off to show just how much the gays really do for our economy. “Day Without a Gay” promises to be more than just a sick out for florists, gym teachers, and all those other gay employment stereotypes.

“Gay people and our allies are compassionate, sensitive, caring, mobilized, and programmed for success. A day without gays would be tragic because it would be a day without love,” the website says.

“On December 10, you are encouraged not to call in sick to work. You are encouraged to call in ‘gay’–and donate your time to service!”

The volunteer section is still a bit thin, but the site is totally Facebooked out, so it will be interesting if the group gets to Join the Impact levels of involvement and enthusiasm. Hey, even a fraction of that would make for big news.
